Opportunities vs. Temptations

Our life in the 21st century offers us unlimited opportunities and options to choose from and create the life we desire. It seems men, and women never were more independent to decide and choose whatever they want to do in their life, whoever they want to become, wherever they want to go. An individual was never freer than now.

Really??

How comes that millions of people are not satisfied with their life and not happy with themselves?

Did you ask yourself what makes YOU feeling content and peaceful? Make money or wealth, amazing career or popularity you feeling happy?
No, none of them!

Why would celebrities who have spoken openly about it like Dwayne Johnson, Sarah Silverman, Jon Hamm, Owen Wilson or J.K. Rowling to name only a few of them, suffer under depression at some point in their life or even through their entire life?

On the internet, you will find tons of famous names of sportsmen, actors, writers, and politicians who had or still has to cope with depression or significant depressive moods. So, I won’t dig deeper into it.

And, you also will find success stories of some of them who were able to overcome the depression as, for example, Dwayne Johnson or Brad Pitt. Therefore, you can be certain that it is possible to overcome depression because it is possible to modify and heal your emotional and thinking patterns.

So, what are the true reasons which let you feel content and happy?

My answer is: It can be any or every reason!

At the moment you comprehend and experience that you yourself create and master your own mood, you will become able to will and determine how you feel.
It may sound confusing to you, but it is your choice. I myself have made this experience many times in my life.

I want to introduce you to Mary. Mary is an old friend of mine whom I know for over forty years. We already went together to kindergarten. I noticed about ten months ago that she sometimes vanishes, goes completely out of contact and isn’t available via phone, text or email. About six months ago I decided to ask her for an explanation for this strange behavior.

Even before I could approach her and asking her questions, she called me and invited me to meet her. I did not suspect Mary would share with me the story of her depression. Really not! She is a very positive and energetic woman who is inspiring others!

Mary works as a lecturer and trainer for several educational institutions in North Germany, lives in a beautiful and expensive part of Hamburg, and – I thought that – leads a fulfilled life. However, to my surprise, she shared with me her experience becoming more and more depressed for no reason. The first time she observed that changes at herself occurred was almost three years prior to our conversation.

In the first part of this blog, you will meet Mary in the typical situation and time when the depressive moods mostly occur. In the following parts, Mary will apply three techniques I recommended to her.

Technique 1, “Work” developed by Byron Katie, is focusing on the mental patterns and will help Mary questioning her thinking. She will obtain the opportunity to find out why and how she is creating sadness and depressive feelings for herself.

Technique 2 is about Gratitude and it will help Mary to open her heart for herself leading her to feel great about herself and her achievements!

Technique 3 is the Emotional Freedom Technique, short EFT, known also as a Tapping Method. Roger Callahan found this method experimenting with acupuncture points while working with a young mother at her anxiety of water. EFT is focusing on mental, emotional and physiological symptoms and is calming them down opening space for modifications.

Please, join me in the first part of the blog. Continue to read.

Until then all the best for you!

Live up to you!

  2. Hello Jenna,
Yes, it is amazing how much we now have at our fingertips – primarily due to technology and its advancement. My heart goes out to Mary and I hope she will find relief and self-acceptance now that she is aware and has made the choice to ‘reach out’.
And thank you for helping her and ‘taking her story to the streets’. It helps others especially when they can find ‘threads of familiarity’ within her story.
Thank you for sharing and touching the heart strings of many.
    Namaste
